Ragdoll is an autonomous cat breed with the richest variation of colors and glassy blue eyes. Brown Ragdoll is one of them with a semi-long and silky coat. People sometimes refer to Ragdoll cats as “dog-like” cats or “puppy-like” cats because these elegant creatures like to follow people around.
Thanks to breeder, Ann Baker, Ragdoll cats were developed as a breed in the 1960s. Brown ragdoll cats usually impress with their cute faces which are always lighter in color than their body.
Well, gracious beauty comes with round eyes, a soft and thick coat, thick limbs, and long tails.
Origins and History of Brown Ragdoll Cat
The Brown Ragdoll originates from Riverside, California, and Ann was the first to promote the breed and trademarked the name Ragdoll. It was later transformed into an International Ragdoll Cat Association establishing the standards for whoever wanted to breed or sell the kittens.
The story is very unusual, but a great thing to know if you are a Brown Ragdoll lover. Josephine was Ann’s non-pedigreed longhaired white cat. She did not belong to a particular breed and the males who sired her litter were of the same “kind”.
As you conclude and according to what is known so far, the original cats for the Ragdoll breed were alley-cats. Litter after litter the breed has spread and the variety of 24 colors has also been developed.
Physical Characteristics
The Brown Ragdoll Cat is one of the biggest domesticated cats. They weigh between 8-15 pounds (3.6-6.8 kg) or even more especially males. They are very cute kittens and it may take up to four years for a Brown Ragdoll to reach the mature size.
The shape of the head is round with a flat part between the ears. Ragdoll has a muscular long body, a short neck, and a broad chest. They are adorable because of their bushy long tails and large round paws. With the silky dense coat which is medium to long, they pretend to be a real fluffy pet.
Brown Ragdolls’ eyes are round and deep, clear blue and it is acknowledged that the genes for point coloration are responsible for that.
There are 6 distinct colors accepted for this breed and those are seal, chocolate, red, blue, lilac, and cream.
Temperament and Adjustability
This breed is well known for its calm and floppy nature which has been passed down from the Persian and Birman genes. Brown Ragdoll cat is also known to be a pain-resistant animal due to the docility of some cats.
Brown ragdoll Cats can make a perfect pet. They are affectionate, with a relaxed temperament, and very intelligent. Gentleness is also one of the major character signs that bring to a conclusion that you will have a lap cat which is easy to handle. Physical contact with the family members and the owner is very important for these cats.
The Brown Ragdoll is patient and thus capable of training to retrieve toys and it accepts this as a nice game. Their playfulness lasts till older years. This kind of cat is not much of a climber and likes to stay and play on the floor or any other flat surface.
Brown Ragdolls are very easy to adjust to the home atmosphere and make a great relationship with all family members. It is not aggressive, so the relationship with the other animals in the house can be very comfortable. As we do when introducing something new, they want to take their time without being pushed.
Maintenance and Care
Brown Ragdoll cat has a plush coat which seems like a long guard hair and a lack of dense under hair. This is great because it brings less shading and matting. Spring may be critical about this since they change their winter coat into a softer more appropriate for the hot time of the year. This breed needs brushing at least twice a week due to its long hair.
It does not like water, so bathing time will be a bit of an issue with the Ragdoll cat which is not a big problem, and as your relationship with the cat firms, it will appreciate whatever you do. The Brown Ragdolls are dependent cats and they require attention. You can leave them alone for a short time, but be very careful because if they start feeling lonely it can bring to a depression.
It is very strange, but scientifically proven that out of the regular cat breeds the Ragdoll has a very low survival rate and lives in 78% to the age of 10.
Owners have to take good care of their health since sicknesses such as Urate Urolithiasis and Diabetes Mellitus can be present in this breed. The common heart disease Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy mostly genetically passed through may lead to sudden death, so regular visits to the Vet are obligatory.
In 2007 a test that detects which genes in Brown Ragdolls cause this disease was developed and owners can now be sure that the cat will not develop the HCM if the genetic status is good.
Appearance and Beauty of Brown Ragdoll Cat
Brown Ragdoll is a beautiful cat capable of lounging in a lazy mood which adds to its appearance. This pointed breed (body is in a lighter color than their points, tail, feet, and ears) comes in a variety of gracious colors. Their attitude toward Brown Ragdoll cats is great friendliness and a wish to cuddle them is a sign of their hidden beauty. They simply attract you as soon as you look at them.
The blue eyes are also a sign of beauty. In some cats only one eye is blue and the curiosity is that they can be deaf in that ear which does not affect their activities.
This beauty full of gentleness can become a bit aggressive not being aware of that while you play. As a sign of happiness, it can hurt toes, fingers, or even faces. So beware!
